I mean HELLO GORGEOUS TASTING ROOM! I could just live here...seriously... Lokoya can I move in and have a key to the cellar?
-Luxury Wine Drinkers
Lokoya has been by far one of my favorite tasting rooms for many reasons. 1. The staff, so welcoming, friendly, fun, knowledgable, and ready to greet you with a cold glass of bubbles. Need I say more? Okay yes I do. 2. The wine is INCREDIBLE. I will point out a couple of my favorites below. 3. Outdoor seating area that you can enjoy on a nice day. 4. Private experience, you have an intimate experience
Lokoya is owned by the Jackson Family and is part of the Spire Collection (a few of my other favorites are Cardinale and Grand Moraine). Spire Collection is a luxury portfolio of wines that links four generations of uncompromising men and women to unparalleled vineyard sites and wineries around the globe.
"Established in 1995, Lokoya is a collection of four distinct Cabernet Sauvignons from four of Napa Valley’s most celebrated mountain appellations: Mount Veeder, Howell Mountain, Spring Mountain and Diamond Mountain. These limited-production wines are 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, fermented with native yeast, and bottled unfined and unfiltered, resulting in the purest expression of place."
My two favorites from my tasting:
1. 2012 Howell Mountain: If you have been following along my wine journey you probably know that Howell Mountain cabs are my favorite. The vines really have to struggle so this causes smaller more concentrated grapes (but also smaller yields). These grapes make a wine that are full bodied, packed with flavor, and lots of earthy undertones.
2. 2013 Mount Veeder: "Struggling in this volcanic soil forces the vines to seek out nutrients and in turn produce berries with intensely concentrated fruit. The wines display defining characteristics of violets and blue fruit with powerful tannins and exceptional aging potential."
Heads up: You need to call way ahead for reservations as they do not offer many tastings to keep the experiences private. The tastings prices are also more on the high side in Napa, so keep that in mind too when planning your special day in Napa.
