I am a total Sparkling wine lover. Sparkling wine and champagne are great all times of the year...but especially to ring in the new year. With New Years Eve less than a week away...I have made a little list here that consists of 13 Champagnes and Sparkling wines, all of which I have tried and enjoyed. I have created this list in hopes you will be able to find most of these fairly easily at your local specialty wine shops (K&L and Total Wine will have most of these as well)! These are not in order of my favorites and there are a few of my favorites that I have not listed on here because they are extremely small producers and not easy to find
Champagne, as some of you know, can only be called Champagne if it comes from the region. This sparkling wine consists of three grapes (Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier) and ages for a minimum of 3 years. You want to serve this cold and in a proper champagne flute or glass.
1. Ruinart Blanc de Blancs
Side Note: This is the Champagne that got me hooked on Champagne. It will forever be a favorite of mine.
2. Billecart-Salmon Brut Rosé Champagne
Side Note: This Rosé Champagne will be sure to impress! This is one of my favorite sparkling Rosés. If you can find it, I HIGHLY recommend getting it.
3. Launois "Cuvée Reserve" Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne
Side Note: This is a great bang for your buck Champagne!
4. Louis Roederer "Brut Premier" Champagne
Side Note: Another great bang for your buck Champagne.
5. Franck Bonville Grand Cru Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne
Side Note: Recently found this one and all of my friends loved it!
6. Krug "Grande Cuvée" 166 Ème Édition Brut Champagne
Side note: If you are down to splurge a bit, you cannot go wrong with Krug. Its AMAZING!
7. 2009 Dom Pérignon Brut Champagne
Side Note: Everyone needs to try a Dom at some point, so if you are okay to spend some extra money this NYE and you haven't tried Dom. Go get a bottle and let me know what you think!
8. 2008 Veuve Clicquot "La Grande Dame" Brut Champagne
Side note: Another great but expensive bottle. If you have the means to get this bottle and haven't tried it, I highly recommend trying this one!
9. Ruinart Brut Rosé Champagne
Side Note: There really has not been a Ruinart I have tried and not liked. So if you have tried the blanc OR you are a sparkling Rosé lover I highly recommend you trying this one out!
10. Nicolas Feuillatte Brut Réserve Champagne
Side note: I have had this at multiple restaurants. It is a very affordable champagne!
*Two of my other favorites (if you can find them are) 2005 Pascal Doquet Champagne and Bereche et Fils Brut Reserve
There are many sparkling wines that are made through the same process as Champagne and others where the process is different. I won't get too technical with you today, but making sparkling wine is difficult and quite a lengthy process. Sparkling wine has to go through 2 fermentation processes - one to make the alcohol (as all wines go through) and then a second that makes the bubbles!
11. 2015 Schramsberg North Coast Blanc de Blancs Brut Sparkling Wine
Side Note: If you have not tried Schramsberg, GO FIND A BOTTLE! This is one of my favorite sparkling wine brands in California and I love popping a bottle open with my girlfriends.
12. 2014 Domaine Carneros Brut Sparkling Wine
Side Note: This is a classic Sparkling Wine that will not disappoint a crowd. Just had a double mag of this at a big dinner and everyone was LOVING it!
13. 2015 Domaine Carneros Brut Rose Sparkling
Side Note: For my sparkling rosé lovers out there, I would get my hands on this one if I was you!
*Italy also makes some great sparkling wines, I highly recommend you trying if you have not and you can find one!
HOPE YOU ALL HAVE A GREAT NEW YEARS! SEE YOU IN 2019!
